Sophie Crane is the Executive Director of the Transom Story Lab and a Lecturer at Dartmouth College.

She lives in Vermont with her radio-making husband, their baby son, and an exceptionally beautiful dog.

Previously, Sophie was an Executive Producer and Senior Editor at Pushkin Industries, where she worked across many projects, including Jill Lepore's The Last Archive, Lauren Ober’s The Loudest Girl in the World, and Rick Rubin’s Broken Record. Sophie edited Paul McCartney’s audio autobiography A Life In Lyrics, which was named one of the best shows 0f 2023 by Apple, Time, Amazon, and more.

Sophie led the team that adapted Florence Williams' Heartbreak into an audiobook, which received a rare NYT book review and which Apple named one of the best audiobooks of 2022. She also managed a team of producers, helped develop and pilot new shows, and led educational workshops.

Prior to her work at Pushkin, Sophie was a Series Producer at PBS’s flagship investigative show, FRONTLINE, where she worked to translate FRONTLINE's legacy film brand into the audio space.

Sophie has worked with Rhode Island Public Radio and North Country Public Radio. She taught documentary storytelling at the Transom Story Workshop. She has also lectured and taught podcasting workshops at Brown University, Harvard University, PRX, The Gates Foundation, and more.

In college, Sophie co-founded Now Here This, an online platform for student produced audio storytelling.

Sophie graduated from Brown University with a degree in History. She is a Truman Scholar and a Royce Fellow. Her storytelling work has won numerous awards, including a Webby, a PRNDI award, and the Alfred I. duPont-Awards’ highest honor, a Gold Baton.
